I get it. You do what you do, you’re not a social media manager and you’d rather die than show up like an influencer. That doesn’t mean you can’t think through interesting video opportunities where your point of view is delivered in ways that will help stop the scroll for those who might care. Settings of visual interest, movement and even hooks (at whatever level you can stomach them) all help. Here are some ideas…

→ Tie it to larger themes and ideas that bridge from thought to physical reality

“This Is Not Just a…” Prompt:

“This gathering isn’t just about policy. It’s about relationships, responsibility, and remembering…”

→ Think of it like English class, what is the layer deeper here in terms of meaning, shared values and symbolism

💧 TOPIC-CENTERED REFLECTIONS

“What _topic_ Means Here” Prompt:

“Back home, water is something a lot of us take for granted. Here in East Maui, I’m reminded that water is also…”

→ Get specific with context, this is your opportunity to “make it real” for your audience who might wrestle with similar things

🔄 LEARNING & UNLEARNING

“What I Came In Thinking” Prompt:

“I came into this experience thinking [X]. After today’s session, I’m rethinking that because…”

→ It’s the classic Hero’s journey… come in one way, leave another…

“Something I Heard That Stuck With Me” Prompt:

→ Reflect back verbatims you hear from customers, clients and stakeholders and add your perspective

→ This is your chance to be a little visionary, paint a picture…

“Why This Work Matters” Prompt:

“This work isn’t just about infrastructure. It’s about dignity, pride-in-place and resilience…”

→ We all like to elevate above the day-to-day and into why this work is worth it to us - here’s your chance

“My Commitment” Prompt:

“When I leave here, I’m carrying with me this commitment: to [action, intention, or principle].”

→ If you were impacted by an event, a place/space or person and are moved to make something that matters, say so

🎥 BONUS TIPS FOR WALK & TALK VIDEOS

• Show the place – pan or turn the camera briefly to show landscape, cool environments and/or fellow participants

• Keep it personal – “I’m learning…” or “I’ve never thought about it this way before…” resonates

• Speak slowly + clearly – it helps with captions and comprehension.

• Invite action or reflection – end with “How are you thinking about this in your world?”
